The creator of OpenClaw joined OpenAI. Google and Microsoft are joining forces to build web protocols that are easy for agents to read (WebMCP, A2A).

The stated aim is cutting token consumption and raising accuracy. And that beyond SEO, a structure friendly to AI could affect discoverability too.

It's hard to read this as pure technical optimization. It looks more like a signal that the web/internet ecosystem is shifting.

1. Technology that exists by not existing

I keep thinking about a definition of ubiquity I heard once. "The ultimate form of a technology is something that exists without being felt — like air."

In a sense the websites we look at now are lumps that only exist because the technology isn't developed enough. Humans can't browse the internet by reading API docs. So we drape an inefficient GUI called "a website" over it and take a performance hit in exchange for comfort.

But what if everyone has a personal assistant? Clear documentation and communication protocols could matter more than websites or UX. And a helper chatbot (something that could be built as nothing more than a skill) takes the website's place.

I don't think websites disappear so much as their role shrinks. The future I picture is everything reorganizing around APIs.

2. A wild economy with the middleman gone

Think about Airbnb. An individual delegates an individual service to an agency. Why? Trust and search cost.

But if something like OpenClaw becomes the standard? DigitalOcean? Why bother? You sell and buy directly. A structure where trades happen without a website becomes possible.

Which raises the question. What about an individual's credit? A service's credit? How does any of that get managed?

3. A record isn't a fact (DID and a theology argument)

DID and credential certificates look like they'll matter a lot, and not only in the cyber world.

Meeting in reality, having a record in reality — that doesn't make something true or factual. Look at real-world con artists.

Which reminds me of a theology argument I had with a devout guy back in the army.

"The Bible is correct, because it is recorded."

"No, a record isn't a fact. Suppose decades after I die someone rewrites all the records to say I was a woman. To people in the future, I am a woman. But that isn't a fact, is it?"

What's written on a blockchain or in a DID is less a fact than a signed claim. Meaning: if a real-world fraudster gets a DID issued, systemically they can become "a verified subject."

4. A mod manager for reality (Skyrim Mod Manager)

Thinking about it, a prompt sandbox for AI might be a decent idea. I was gaming yesterday and looked at a mod manager — for something like Skyrim you keep separate sandboxes per mod setup.

Would OpenClaw work similarly? Fetching and managing its own skills.

Then does the ordering of skills affect the outcome? Do skills collide or produce side effects on each other? I need to study the technical side a bit.

5. Instead of a conclusion, the sense I have right now

There's that joke, "isn't reality actually a Matrix simulation?" I have the opposite feeling — an intuition that reality is turning into the Matrix.

A world where websites disappear and only data streams remain. A world where real-world credit and behavior are managed like mods in a sandbox.

Maybe we aren't waking up inside a simulation. Maybe we're laying a simulation over reality.
